Liverpool would reportedly have to pay at least £100 million if they want to prise Micky van de Ven away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
That is the view of former senior Tottenham scout Bryan King, who believes Spurs would only consider an enormous offer for one of their most important defenders.
Reports have linked Liverpool with a surprise move for the Dutch centre-back as they look to strengthen their defence. However, Tottenham see Van de Ven as a key figure in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans and have no intention of letting him leave cheaply.
The 25-year-old remains under contract until 2029 and even captained Spurs during the closing stages of last season. Although questions have emerged over his future after a difficult campaign that included disagreements with supporters and an inconsistent run of form following his 2023 move from Wolfsburg, the club still values him highly.
Liverpool are believed to be in the market for defensive reinforcements after Ibrahima Konaté’s departure. Injuries to Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni, combined with signs of aging from Virgil van Dijk, have increased the Reds’ need for another top-class centre-back.
Tottenham have already reshaped their defence this summer by signing Jan Paul van Hecke in a £52 million deal, while Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have also joined. More changes could follow, with Luka Vušković attracting interest from Brighton and Cristian Romero widely tipped to leave.
Despite those potential exits, Van de Ven is viewed as untouchable because of his age, pace, and overall quality.
Speaking to Football Insider, King described the Dutch international as one of Tottenham’s standout performers and insisted Liverpool would have to spend around £100 million to convince Spurs to sell.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are reportedly in discussions with Van de Ven over a new contract, although no agreement has yet been reached. With three years still remaining on his current deal, the club is under little pressure to make an immediate decision. However, next summer could prove crucial, as Spurs may have to choose between cashing in for a substantial fee or risking his value dropping as he enters the final years of his contract—unless an irresistible offer arrives before then.
