Graham Potter gives Alexander Isak game-time hint for Sweden

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak could potentially start all four of Sweden’s upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, although Sweden head coach Graham Potter has made it clear that he is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes in every game.

Isak has made an impressive start to the 2026/27 season after an injury-hit first campaign at Liverpool. The 27-year-old has scored four goals in seven appearances for the Reds, including the winner against Bournemouth in Liverpool’s most recent Premier League match.

Sweden have a busy Nations League schedule, with four matches coming in a short period:

* Sweden vs Romania — September 25
* Sweden vs Poland — September 28
* Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Sweden — October 2
* Romania vs Sweden — October 5

Potter has indicated that Isak and Viktor Gyökeres could both start the matches, but the manager intends to manage their workload. When asked whether the two forwards could start every game, Potter replied that it was “potentially” possible, while stressing that they would not play every minute.

Potter explained that Isak has been playing regularly and is in a good place physically, but Sweden will need to assess how players recover between matches. He also revealed that Liverpool have not made any request regarding Isak’s playing time during the international break.

Sweden have deliberately selected a larger squad because of the congested schedule. The Swedish FA confirmed that Isak is part of Potter’s squad alongside Gyökeres, with the team looking both to develop the squad and compete for results in the Nations League.

For Liverpool, the main point is that Isak is expected to be heavily involved for Sweden, but Potter’s comments suggest some rotation or reduced minutes could be used across the four fixtures rather than playing him for 90 minutes every time.
