Claressa Shields Reveals Plans To Have A Baby With Papoose In 2027
Boxing champion Claressa Shields has revealed that she and rapper Papoose are planning to welcome their first child together in 2027.
During a recent interview with Rickey Smiley, Shields explained that she intends to complete two more boxing matches before turning her attention toward starting a family.
Shields said she has her current fight and one additional bout remaining, after which she plans to have a baby. Her announcement was met with applause from the studio, with Rickey Smiley responding that love was in the air.
The latest revelation follows several comments Shields has made throughout 2026 about her plans for motherhood. Rather than waiting until she completely retires from boxing, the undefeated champion has indicated that she wants to balance her career with starting a family.
Shields’ announcement comes after another major achievement inside the ring. On August 15, she defeated Kaye Scott by sixth-round technical knockout at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, reclaiming the WBC middleweight championship.
That victory kept Shields unbeaten as a professional, moving her record to 19 wins. She returned to the 160-pound division after previously competing at heavyweight, where she became an undisputed champion.
Earlier in March, Shields spoke about her plans during an appearance on Way Up With Angela Yee, revealing that she and Papoose were targeting 2027 to expand their family. She later discussed the same plans on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast, explaining that they spend significant time together outside of her training camps.
Although Shields still has more fights planned, her decision to have a child does not necessarily mean she is immediately ending her boxing career. She has simply made it clear that starting a family is an important part of what she wants for the next stage of her life.
