Liverpool prepare new contract for Arsenal target Rio Ngumoha

Liverpool are reportedly working on a new contract for teenage winger Rio Ngumoha as Arsenal continue to monitor his situation at Anfield.

The 18-year-old has made encouraging progress since breaking into Liverpool’s senior squad, and the club reportedly wants to reward his development with improved terms. Liverpool also expect Ngumoha to receive more first-team opportunities this season.

Liverpool want to keep Ngumoha

According to reports from Football Insider, Ngumoha is happy with life at Liverpool and is not currently looking to leave despite Arsenal’s interest.

The youngster has already started three of Liverpool’s first seven competitive matches this season, although he is yet to record a goal or assist.

Liverpool’s decision not to sign another winger during the summer transfer window could provide Ngumoha with an even clearer pathway to regular football. His ability to play on either side of the attack also gives the coaching staff greater flexibility.

His existing Liverpool contract reportedly runs until 2028, but the club is said to be interested in extending it further to protect one of its most promising young players.

Arsenal interest increases pressure

Arsenal’s reported interest demonstrates the growing reputation Ngumoha has built since breaking into Liverpool’s first team.

Despite that attention, Liverpool are reportedly confident that the winger will remain at Anfield, with optimism that a new agreement can eventually be reached.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke said Liverpool are determined to retain Ngumoha and that the player is comfortable with his current situation.

The expectation of regular first-team football could therefore play an important role in the negotiations. Liverpool will hope that increased opportunities, together with improved contract terms, will convince Ngumoha to continue his development on Merseyside.

For now, the Reds appear focused on securing the teenager’s long-term future and preventing Arsenal or other interested clubs from turning their interest into a serious transfer opportunity.
