Liverpool youngster Vincent Joseph set to join Arsenal
Liverpool are set to lose highly-rated academy forward Vincent Joseph to Premier League rivals Arsenal. The 16-year-old striker has ended his nine-year association with Liverpool after deciding not to accept the scholarship terms offered by the Reds.
Joseph confirmed his departure from Liverpool on social media, writing that after nine unforgettable years, it was time to say goodbye and thanking the club for the memories.
The teenager has attracted attention because of his impressive goalscoring record. He has scored eight goals in nine appearances for England Under-16s, while also scoring for Liverpool’s Under-18 side despite still being a schoolboy.
Arsenal had already reached an agreement with Joseph over his move, but the transfer has involved a compensation dispute between the two clubs. Liverpool and Arsenal were unable to agree on the fee, meaning the matter was referred to a tribunal to determine the compensation payable for the young player.
Joseph is expected to continue his development within Arsenal’s academy, where the club has been recruiting several promising young players. His arrival adds another attacking prospect to Arsenal’s youth setup.
For Liverpool, the move represents the departure of another highly regarded academy player after almost a decade at the club.
