Tottenham Hotspur’s ambitious summer transfer plans continue to gather momentum after fresh reports claimed Roberto De Zerbi’s side have approached Como over a move for Martin Baturina, with the Croatian playmaker emerging as part of a potential triple midfield overhaul alongside Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Spurs are determined to rebuild their squad and establish themselves as genuine contenders for the European places under De Zerbi. The club has already strengthened its defence by signing Martin Dubravka, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers, while also completing a £52 million move for Jan Paul van Hecke. Attention has now shifted firmly towards midfield reinforcements.
Tottenham remain in advanced negotiations with Mateus Fernandes’ representatives and are prepared to meet both the player’s wage demands and West Ham’s reported £80 million valuation. At the same time, discussions with Newcastle United over Sandro Tonali are progressing, with reports suggesting Spurs have already agreed personal terms on a six-year contract and are closing in on a transfer worth around £90 million.
Adding to their ambitious plans, journalist Matteo Moretto has revealed on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel that Tottenham have also contacted Como to gather information about signing Martin Baturina. The Croatian midfielder has attracted significant interest following an impressive Serie A campaign under Cesc Fabregas and further enhanced his reputation with standout performances at the Club World Cup, including a memorable goal against England.
According to Moretto, both Tottenham and Aston Villa have made enquiries regarding the 23-year-old’s availability, although securing a deal is expected to be difficult. Como are reportedly determined to keep Baturina after qualifying for the Champions League and have placed an €80 million (£69 million) valuation on the playmaker to discourage potential suitors.
Interest from Bayern Munich has also complicated Tottenham’s pursuit, although the German champions’ reported agreement to sign Ismael Saibari could reduce their need for another attacking midfielder.
If Spurs eventually succeed in signing Baturina, Tonali and Fernandes, the combined outlay would reach approximately £239 million, highlighting the club’s determination to transform the squad after last season’s struggles. Such arrivals could also increase competition for James Maddison, whose place in the side remains uncertain following his return from a lengthy ACL injury.
Meanwhile, Tottenham may also sanction departures to balance their squad, with Lucas Bergvall reportedly attracting interest from both Nottingham Forest and Napoli as Spurs weigh up his future.
