Mamardashvili responds to mistake with stunning save
Giorgi Mamardashvili produced an impressive response after making an error that allowed Tottenham to reduce Liverpool’s lead to 2–1 in their Carabao Cup clash at Anfield.
The Georgian goalkeeper was partly at fault for Conor Gallagher’s goal, which brought Tottenham back into the game. However, he quickly had an opportunity to make amends.
A deflection off Ronald Araújo fell kindly for Omar Marmoush inside the Liverpool box. The forward struck the ball firmly towards goal, but Mamardashvili reacted brilliantly, getting down quickly to his right and turning the effort around the post for a corner.
The save drew a strong reaction from the Liverpool bench, with Alisson Becker standing up and applauding his teammate. The moment highlighted the support between Liverpool’s goalkeepers despite the competition for the position.
Mamardashvili’s crucial intervention helped Liverpool maintain their advantage as they eventually secured a 3–1 victory over Tottenham and progressed to the next round of the Carabao Cup. Dominik Szoboszlai later sealed the win with a spectacular long-range strike in stoppage time.
