Liverpool’s sluggish Fulham display explained
Andoni Iraola has explained why Liverpool struggled to produce their best attacking performance during their 0-0 Premier League draw with Fulham.
The Liverpool manager pointed to the demanding schedule as a major factor. The Reds had played Atlético Madrid in the Champions League less than three days earlier, leaving only around 60 hours between the two matches.
Iraola admitted that several players were tired, which forced him to make changes to the team. He explained that many of the alterations were made for physical reasons because some players had not recovered fully from the previous game.
Despite their efforts, Liverpool struggled to create clear chances against Fulham and managed just three shots on target throughout the match. They ultimately had to settle for a goalless draw.
Iraola also stressed that this is part of the demands of competing in multiple competitions. Liverpool will have to recover quickly again, with Tottenham waiting in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
The draw means Liverpool have now drawn three of their first four Premier League matches of the 2026/27 season, collecting six points from a possible 12.
