Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s latest Brazil squad, and the decision could be very good news for the Reds.
Brazil announced a youthful squad for their upcoming international friendlies against Australia and India. Alisson, along with several experienced players, was omitted as Ancelotti begins a rebuilding process following Brazil’s disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign.
Ancelotti explained that Brazil already knows Alisson very well and that, for these upcoming matches, the priority is to give younger goalkeepers an opportunity. He also indicated that if Alisson remains Brazil’s best goalkeeper when major competitions such as the Copa América arrive, he can still be selected.
For Liverpool, this is a major boost. Instead of travelling thousands of miles for three friendlies, Alisson will be able to remain with the club and enjoy some valuable rest during the extended international break.
The decision is particularly welcome given Alisson’s importance to Liverpool and his previous injury problems. He also showed his quality in Liverpool’s 2–1 Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid, producing an important save against Julián Alvarez that helped keep the Reds in the game.
Brazil will face Australia twice, on September 25 and 29, before taking on India on October 3. Alisson is expected to use the international break to rest and return refreshed for Liverpool’s crucial fixtures.
In short: Brazil get to test their next generation, while Liverpool get to keep one of their most important players fresh. A win-win for the Reds.
