Liverpool’s Late Attempt to Sign Malo Gusto Ends in Failure
Liverpool reportedly made a late move to sign Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto before the transfer window closed, but their attempt was unsuccessful.
The Reds approached Chelsea with a proposal to take the French defender on loan. However, Chelsea were not interested in a temporary deal and preferred to sell Gusto permanently.
According to reports, Liverpool were only willing to consider a loan without an obligation to buy, while Chelsea wanted a permanent transfer. The financial demands of a permanent deal were also said to be beyond what Liverpool could afford at this stage.
Liverpool’s interest in Gusto comes amid their ongoing search for a reliable right-back following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure. Jeremie Frimpong was brought in as a replacement, but there are concerns that he has not yet fully solved the team’s problems in that position.
Gusto was viewed as a potential option who could strengthen Liverpool’s defence, but with the deadline approaching and Chelsea refusing to accept the proposed loan arrangement, the move failed to materialise.
As a result, Gusto is now expected to remain at Chelsea unless there is a dramatic late development. Manchester City had also previously been linked with the former Lyon defender, but that potential move did not happen either.
Although Gusto has performed well for Chelsea, his place in the starting lineup could depend on Reece James’ fitness. If James remains available, he could be the preferred option at right-back, while Chelsea also have Marco Palestra as another option in the position.
