Liverpool Handed Cody Gakpo Injury Blow as Expert Warns of Possible Lengthy Absence
Liverpool have been handed a worrying injury concern involving Cody Gakpo after the forward was forced to leave the Netherlands’ Nations League clash with Serbia.
Gakpo suffered the injury during the match and was unable to continue. The 27-year-old has subsequently withdrawn from the Netherlands squad and is set to return to Liverpool for further medical examinations.
The injury occurred after Gakpo was caught in an awkward challenge that caused his ankle and lower leg to twist in an unusual position.

According to injury specialist Physio Scout, the incident could potentially involve damage to the syndesmosis, commonly known as a high ankle sprain. Further scans are expected to determine the full extent of the problem and rule out any associated bone damage.
If the injury turns out to be a moderate syndesmosis or deltoid ligament problem, Gakpo could potentially spend around three to six weeks on the sidelines.
There is also a more serious possibility. Should examinations reveal a significant syndesmosis tear that requires surgery, the Liverpool attacker could face an absence of eight to 10 weeks or even longer.
That would represent a significant setback for Liverpool, particularly with a number of important fixtures approaching.
However, the final recovery period cannot be confirmed until Gakpo undergoes detailed scans and Liverpool’s medical team determines exactly how serious the injury is.
For now, Liverpool will be hoping that the damage is less severe than initially feared and that Gakpo can return to action as quickly as possible.
