We can’t have this’ – Jeff Bezos backed to ‘put hand in his pocket’ for Liverpool’s January overhaul

Jeff Bezos could fund Liverpool’s January transfer plans, says expert

Liverpool’s new minority owners, including Jeff Bezos and Amit Bhatia, could provide financial backing for Andoni Iraola during the January transfer window, according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson suggested the new investors should initially observe how things operate at Anfield before becoming more involved in football decisions.

However, he believes their approach could change if Liverpool struggle to meet expectations during the season.

“If things are not going well,” Borson explained, “they could decide that more needs to be done and provide funds for new signings.”

The comments come as attention begins to turn towards January, with Liverpool currently sitting sixth in the Premier League after the opening five matches.

Bezos and Bhatia are part of the consortium that acquired a 38 per cent stake in Liverpool, potentially giving them a greater financial role at the club in the future.

Liverpool linked with several January targets

If Liverpool decide to strengthen Iraola’s squad in January, several players have already been linked with a move to Anfield.

Mexican youngster Gilberto Mora is reportedly valued at around £40million and has been monitored by Liverpool for some time.

Brentford forward Kevin Schade is also believed to be on the club’s radar, while Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is another name attracting interest, particularly given his previous relationship with Iraola.

With only five league games played so far, Liverpool still have a long season ahead and could reassess their transfer priorities as the campaign develops.
