Hugo Ekitike targets December return for Liverpool

Liverpool have received an encouraging update on Hugo Ekitike, who is continuing his recovery from the serious Achilles injury he suffered against Paris Saint-Germain in April.

According to L’Équipe, Ekitike has made good progress in his rehabilitation and recently travelled to the United States to consult a medical specialist about his recovery. The assessment reportedly confirmed that his rehabilitation is progressing according to plan.

The French striker has now reached the stage where he can lightly jog on the pitch, another important milestone after suffering a ruptured right Achilles tendon.

Ekitike is reportedly targeting a return to team training in November, with the possibility of returning to Liverpool’s matchday squad in December 2026. However, his exact comeback date will depend on how his body responds to the next stages of rehabilitation, so Liverpool are unlikely to rush him.

The injury originally ruled Ekitike out for the remainder of Liverpool’s 2025–26 season and France’s World Cup campaign. Liverpool confirmed at the time that scans showed an Achilles rupture.

His return would provide another attacking option for Liverpool, particularly with Cody Gakpo currently dealing with an injury. Ekitike had an impressive first Premier League season at Liverpool, scoring 11 league goals in 2025–26.

Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola had previously indicated that Ekitike would return later than several of the club’s other injured players, without giving a specific date.
