Tottenham Hotspur could be prepared to offer Dejan Kulusevski a new contract despite the serious injury problems that have kept him out for an extended period.
According to a report from Football Insider, Spurs are open to discussing a fresh deal with the Swedish international, but his future could depend heavily on how he performs after returning from injury. Kulusevski missed the entire 2025/26 season after suffering a significant knee injury and is now closing in on a return to competitive action.
The 26-year-old suffered the injury during Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace in May 2025. Further examinations revealed a serious problem involving his kneecap, ruling him out for the whole of the following campaign.
His absence was a major blow for Tottenham, particularly given the important role he had played for the club before his injury. The midfielder had established himself as one of Spurs’ key attacking players, contributing both creativity and goals while also proving capable of operating in different midfield and wide positions.
There are naturally questions over whether Kulusevski will immediately rediscover his previous level following such a lengthy spell on the sidelines. However, reports suggest that he has now returned to full training and is working towards making his first appearance of the season under Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham are expected to manage his comeback carefully rather than rushing him into action. The club want to make sure he regains his fitness, sharpness and confidence before being exposed to the demands of Premier League football.
Kulusevski’s future has also been the subject of speculation in recent transfer windows. Napoli were previously linked with the Sweden international, while Fiorentina were also reportedly interested during the summer. Neither move materialised, leaving him in north London.
Now, should Kulusevski return successfully and avoid further problems with his knee, Tottenham could reward him with a new contract. While there are currently no details regarding the length or financial terms of any potential extension, the move could also help Spurs protect the long-term value of a player they still regard as an important part of the squad.
For now, however, the priority is clear: getting Kulusevski fully fit and back to his best before making any major decision about his long-term future.
