Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a fresh injury concern after Jan Paul van Hecke was forced to withdraw from the Netherlands squad during the international break.
The 26-year-old centre-back picked up a foot injury during the Netherlands’ 2–1 Nations League win over Serbia on Sunday. The Dutch Football Federation confirmed that Van Hecke has left the national-team camp and will return to Tottenham for treatment and further medical checks. (GIST BUZZ)
Van Hecke had started both of the Netherlands’ matches during the international window, completing the full 90 minutes against Germany before also playing the entire game against Serbia. His injury means he will miss the upcoming Nations League meeting with Greece, while the Netherlands are also due to face Serbia again later in the break. No replacement has been called up at this stage. (GIST BUZZ)
The injury is a concern for Tottenham because Van Hecke has quickly become an important member of Roberto De Zerbi’s defence since arriving from Brighton in the summer. The defender previously worked under De Zerbi at Brighton, and Spurs brought him to North London as one of the manager’s major defensive additions.
