Vinicius Jr. has reportedly emerged as a shock long-term Liverpool target, with fresh claims suggesting the Real Madrid star’s representatives have held encouraging discussions over a possible free transfer in 2027.

According to Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, speaking via Defensa Central, negotiations over a new contract at Real Madrid have stalled despite both parties wanting to continue their relationship.

He claims talks over an extension have been put on hold because Vinicius’ camp believes Madrid have yet to make a strong enough offer. As a result, the Brazilian’s representatives are said to have quietly assessed interest from other clubs, particularly in the Premier League.

Alvarez de Mon alleges that Liverpool responded positively during those initial conversations, although any potential move would only be realistic if Vinicius becomes a free agent in 2027.

While such a deal would still require a huge financial commitment, Liverpool could view the Brazilian as a marquee addition if the opportunity arises. The 26-year-old remains one of world football’s top attacking talents, having recorded 128 goals and 100 assists in 375 appearances for Real Madrid.

The Reds are expected to strengthen their left-wing options in the coming years, and recent transfer activity shows the club are willing to pursue elite-level players when the right opportunity presents itself.

Despite the speculation, the most likely outcome remains Vinicius extending his stay in Madrid. Alvarez de Mon noted that a contract renewal this summer appears increasingly unlikely, adding that the player’s relationship with manager José Mourinho, his performances, and the team’s progress could all influence future negotiations.

Liverpool currently have several wide attacking options, including Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Rio Ngumoha, and new arrival Victor Munoz. Chiesa is expected to leave this summer amid Serie A interest, while Gakpo could also depart if a suitable offer arrives.

With Wirtz and Szoboszlai often deployed centrally, Liverpool may still look to add another natural winger. Replacing Mohamed Salah remains a key objective, with RB Leipzig youngster Yan Diomande and Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola among the names linked. The Reds also made an enquiry about Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche earlier this summer, although that has not developed into a formal pursuit.
