Tottenham have long been linked with a move for Adam Wharton, with reports suggesting the Crystal Palace midfielder is their top midfield target as Spurs look to rebuild after back-to-back 17th-place finishes.
However, recent reports indicated that the 22-year-old prefers a move to a Champions League club, with several Premier League giants joining the race for his signature, seemingly dealing a blow to Tottenham’s hopes.
Now, Spurs may have been handed a fresh opportunity. According to journalist Alan Nixon, Wharton is attracting strong interest from clubs across England and Europe ahead of next season. Crystal Palace have reportedly placed a £100 million valuation on the England international, a fee that would make him the club’s most expensive sale ever.
Palace view Wharton as being in the same bracket as top midfielders such as Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson and are determined to maximise his value this summer.
Although Liverpool and Chelsea have both monitored the midfielder, the report claims that Palace’s £100m asking price has discouraged both clubs, with neither willing to go beyond the £50m–£60m range.
That development could reopen the door for Tottenham, although meeting Palace’s valuation would require a record-breaking investment from the North London club, whose current highest-ever signing remains Dominic Solanke at £65m.
Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounding Joao Palhinha could further shape Tottenham’s midfield plans. Yves Bissouma has hinted at a possible departure, and while Roberto De Zerbi is keen to bring Palhinha to Spurs, negotiations are far from straightforward.
The Portuguese midfielder is reportedly considering both Tottenham and a return to Sporting Lisbon, with his decision likely to play a major role in how Spurs reshape their midfield this summer.
