Liverpool are pursuing several transfer targets this summer, but reports suggest they have already agreed personal terms with a potential defensive signing should they decide to strengthen at centre-back.
While Andy Robertson’s exit marked the end of an outstanding spell at Anfield, Ibrahima Konate’s departure was a much bigger setback after the Frenchman featured in nearly every Premier League match last season.
The arrivals of Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni provide some cover, although questions remain over how quickly they can adapt and make an impact. As a result, Liverpool may prioritize reinforcements in other areas before turning their attention to defence.
One option could be a reunion with former academy graduate Jarell Quansah.
Personal Terms Already Agreed
According to reports from the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have already reached an agreement on personal terms with Quansah should they decide to activate the buy-back clause included in his move to Bayer Leverkusen.
The defender joined the German club for £35 million last summer, but Liverpool retained the option to re-sign him for around £55 million. While the Reds are not currently expected to trigger the clause immediately, the groundwork for a return has reportedly already been completed.
Liverpool’s immediate focus appears to be on other positions, particularly out wide, where Yan Diomande remains a key target. However, if the club later decides that additional defensive reinforcements are needed, Quansah could return without lengthy negotiations.
Strong Season in Germany
Quansah left Liverpool in search of regular first-team football, and he achieved exactly that at Bayer Leverkusen. Despite a few minor injury setbacks, the centre-back made 44 appearances in all competitions and became an important figure in the squad.
He helped Leverkusen secure a sixth-place Bundesliga finish and qualification for next season’s Europa League, while also contributing five goals from defence.
His impressive performances earned him a place in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, further enhancing his reputation. Whether Liverpool choose to bring him back remains uncertain, but his progress is likely to attract interest from other clubs as well.
