Tottenham Hotspur know that a successful summer transfer window could be crucial if they are to re-establish themselves as a competitive force in the Premier League.
The North London side have endured two consecutive 17th-place finishes, with their latest campaign going down to the final day. A narrow victory over Everton ensured survival and prevented a return to the second tier for the first time since 1977, despite West Ham’s convincing win over Leeds United.
While Spurs remain in the Premier League, their struggles have highlighted deeper issues within the club. Years of poor decisions and underwhelming recruitment have left them fighting to avoid relegation rather than competing higher up the table. However, there is hope that a fresh chapter is beginning, with the club already working to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.
Tottenham are reportedly progressing with moves for free agents Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, but reinforcements in attack remain a priority. One name previously linked with Spurs is Manchester City winger Savinho. The club attempted to sign the Brazilian last summer before negotiations ultimately collapsed. Although highly talented and exciting on the ball, Savinho’s reported £60 million valuation appears excessive considering he made only a handful of Premier League starts last season.
Instead, Spurs may turn their attention to West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville. Reports suggest Tottenham have already made contact with the Dutch international, who is believed to be open to a move across London. Following West Ham’s relegation, Summerville could be available for around £26 million, making him a significantly more affordable option.
While Savinho is regarded as the more creative player, Summerville offers a strong all-round package. His work rate, physicality, defensive contribution, and ability to win duels compare favourably, and he has already proven himself capable of performing under pressure in a struggling side.
Praised by Gianfranco Zola as an “unpredictable” talent, Summerville has continued to develop in recent seasons and is viewed as one of the Premier League’s most underrated attackers. Despite playing in a difficult environment at West Ham, he regularly stepped up and became a key figure for his team.
For Tottenham, signing Summerville could represent far better value than pursuing Savinho. With a major rebuild required this summer, securing a proven Premier League performer for less than half the price could be a smart piece of business. His pace, directness, and versatility would provide De Zerbi with another dangerous option in attack, and there is a growing belief that he could have an even greater impact in North London than the Manchester City winger.
Although his form has fluctuated at times, Summerville’s talent has never been in doubt. If Spurs complete a move, they may be landing one of the division’s most overlooked attacking players — a footballer capable of becoming a major force on the left flank in the years ahead.
