Jamie Carragher Slams Jeremie Frimpong After Liverpool’s Heavy Defeat to Man City
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has criticised Jeremie Frimpong following the Reds’ disappointing 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
The former Liverpool defender was particularly unimpressed with Frimpong’s performance, questioning the right-back’s defensive display after Rayan Cherki comfortably got past him to score City’s third goal.
Frimpong arrived at Liverpool with high expectations after impressing during his time at Bayer Leverkusen. However, the Dutch international has struggled to establish himself consistently since joining the Merseyside club.
Speaking during his punditry duties for Sky Sports, Carragher acknowledged Manchester City’s ability to recruit quality players before turning his attention to Cherki and Frimpong.
Carragher praised the French attacking midfielder for his impressive quality but had little positive to say about Liverpool’s defender.
He suggested that Frimpong had looked disorganised throughout the game, particularly during the build-up to Cherki’s goal, when the City star skilfully manoeuvred past him before finding the back of the net.
Liverpool’s Transfer Decisions Under the Spotlight

Frimpong’s latest performance has raised further questions about Liverpool’s recruitment and whether the club have adequately strengthened their squad following several significant departures.
The Reds have struggled to find a convincing replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose exit left a considerable gap at right-back.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have also faced challenges in replacing other influential players, including Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, increasing the pressure on the club’s recruitment strategy.
Manchester City, on the other hand, have demonstrated that identifying the right players can be just as important as spending enormous sums in the transfer market.
Cherki’s performance was a clear example of City’s ability to bring in talented players who can make an immediate impact.
Liverpool’s expensive attacking recruits have yet to deliver the consistency many supporters expected, adding to concerns about whether the club made the right decisions during the transfer window.
Liverpool Have Plenty of Questions to Answer
The defeat to Manchester City exposed several weaknesses in Liverpool’s performance, although Ryan Gravenberch’s second-half dismissal significantly changed the course of the match.
After the midfielder received his second yellow card, City took full advantage of their numerical superiority, scoring three times through Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Cherki.
Cherki’s goal was particularly damaging for Liverpool, as the midfielder comfortably bypassed Frimpong before finishing the move.
Liverpool will now need to address their defensive problems and find ways to improve their performances if they want to compete with the Premier League’s strongest sides.
Carragher’s criticism will add to the pressure on Frimpong, who must work hard to convince supporters and critics that he can become a reliable option for the Reds.
