Tottenham have officially parted ways with Yves Bissouma, bringing an end to months of uncertainty over the Mali international’s future. With his contract nearing its expiry and no breakthrough in renewal talks, it had become increasingly clear that his time in North London was coming to an end.
His departure marks another major step in what promises to be a summer of significant change at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Since Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival, it has been evident that a squad rebuild was on the cards. The Italian made it clear at the end of last season that only a limited group of players fit into his long-term plans, signalling that several familiar faces would move on as he shapes the team to suit his style.
Bissouma is among the first high-profile exits. Signed from Brighton in 2022 amid great expectations, the midfielder showed flashes of the quality that made him one of the Premier League’s most sought-after players. Across 111 appearances, he produced some standout performances, but injuries and inconsistency prevented him from fully establishing himself as a key figure.
His final campaign summed up much of his Spurs spell. Fitness problems restricted him to just 11 appearances, although he still played a part in Tottenham’s successful Europa League run, allowing him to leave the club as a European trophy winner.
The decision not to extend his contract reflects De Zerbi’s determination to refresh the midfield and continue the wider squad rebuild. Spurs have already been linked with several targets, including Newcastle star Sandro Tonali, as they seek reinforcements capable of taking the team to a higher level.
Bissouma’s departure is just one part of the summer clear-out. Tottenham have also confirmed the exits of academy players Pele Arganese-McDermott, Tyrell Ashcroft, Leo Black, Dante Cassanova, Matthew Craig and Calum Logan, with Matthew Craig and Dante Cassanova among those to have gained first-team experience.
Attention will now turn to arrivals, with expectations growing that De Zerbi will continue to reshape the squad aggressively in the weeks ahead.
As for Bissouma, despite an up-and-down spell in North London, the experienced midfielder is expected to attract interest from both England and abroad. His Tottenham chapter may be over, but his career at the highest level is far from finished.
For Spurs, meanwhile, the De Zerbi era is fully underway—and the rebuilding process is only just beginning. ⚪️🔥
