Tottenham Step Up Chase for £60m Winger Compared to Lamine Yamal
Djed Spence’s impressive England campaign has come to an end, but Tottenham will still have a player guaranteed to lift the FIFA World Cup trophy, with Cristian Romero’s Argentina set to face Pedro Porro’s Spain in Sunday’s final.
Romero’s future at Spurs remains uncertain, with speculation over a summer departure continuing to grow after a turbulent campaign on and off the pitch. Porro, however, appears committed to the club after signing a new long-term contract earlier this summer and has enjoyed an outstanding tournament with Spain.
Tottenham struggled throughout the 2025/26 season, and inconsistency on the right side of the pitch was a recurring problem. A top-class right winger could help unlock the best version of Porro, much like Lamine Yamal has done for Spain.
Porro has spoken about the understanding he has developed with Yamal during the tournament, explaining that their partnership is built on reading each game’s demands and adapting to what both the team and Yamal require.
> “Everything is a little more difficult, but it’s about understanding what he needs in each match. It’s more about how the match unfolds, what he needs, and what the team needs.”
That chemistry has been evident throughout the World Cup. Porro has started five matches, helped Spain keep three clean sheets, scored twice, and produced several commanding performances from right-back.
With Randal Kolo Muani failing to make the desired impact at Tottenham last season, Roberto De Zerbi is keen to strengthen the attacking options and provide Porro with a more reliable winger.
One player firmly on Spurs’ radar is Manchester City’s Savinho. Reports suggest Tottenham are preparing to intensify their pursuit of the Brazilian, who is valued at around £60 million.
Although Savinho found regular opportunities hard to come by under Pep Guardiola, competing with the likes of Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo, he still managed one goal and eight Premier League assists while creating 11 big chances.
His dribbling ability also stood out, finishing among the league’s best in successful take-ons. Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson even compared elements of Savinho’s game to Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal.
> “Savinho is going to be a superstar. He reminds me a little bit of Yamal. They can both dribble, but it’s their decision-making that stands out. They always seem to pick the right pass at the right moment.”
Before moving to Manchester City, Savinho starred for Girona in La Liga, recording 19 combined goals and assists while leading the division in successful dribbles—finishing ahead of Yamal in that category. Data from Scout Lab also identified Yamal as the player most similar to Savinho in terms of style during the 2023/24 campaign.
Despite a quiet first season in England, Tottenham believe a move to north London and the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi could help Savinho rediscover the form that made him one of Europe’s brightest young attackers. If a deal is completed, Porro may finally have the dynamic attacking partner he has been missing on the right flank.
