Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye this summer as they continue strengthening their attacking options, according to Santi Aouna.
Spurs have already been busy in the transfer market, bringing in Andy Robertson, Martin Dubravka, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali as they aim to bounce back from successive 17th-place Premier League finishes.
However, the north London club are still eager to reinforce their frontline and have now turned their attention to one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
Mbaye, widely regarded as a “phenomenon”, is expected to leave PSG in search of regular first-team football despite collecting back-to-back Champions League and Ligue 1 winners’ medals with the French giants.
The 18-year-old Senegal international has found himself behind Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola, Lee Kang-In and Goncalo Ramos in the attacking pecking order, prompting him to seek a move away from the club.
Several teams are monitoring his situation, with Tottenham believed to be among the leading contenders for his signature.
PSG are willing to sanction Mbaye’s departure if their valuation is met, while Spurs see the youngster’s pace and flair as qualities that fit their rebuilding plans. Although no transfer fee has been disclosed, the winger is widely expected to leave before the window closes, and Tottenham have the financial resources to pursue a deal.
A move for Mbaye would represent an investment in potential rather than an immediate solution. Roberto De Zerbi has a strong reputation for developing young attacking talent, and the PSG prospect could thrive under his guidance.
That said, Spurs’ transfer strategy this summer has largely focused on players capable of making an instant impact, making Mbaye something of a long-term project. Whether the teenager is prepared to accept that role remains to be seen, with developments expected over the coming weeks.
