Tottenham Hotspur have shifted their transfer focus to Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton after accepting that a move for Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali is unlikely this summer.
According to reports, Spurs have identified the highly-rated 21-year-old as a leading target as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season.
However, Tottenham are not alone in the race. Liverpool are also keen on Wharton and have reportedly held discussions with his representatives in recent weeks, while Manchester United have been tracking his progress for some time.
Wharton is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s brightest young midfield talents, earning praise for his composure, technical quality, and ability to dictate the tempo of matches. Former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is said to be a huge admirer of the midfielder, describing his skill set as ideal for controlling games and shielding the defence.
Crystal Palace are reluctant to part ways with such a promising player and are expected to demand a significant fee. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham are willing to meet those demands.
Spurs could face a major challenge from Liverpool, who can offer Champions League football and an ambitious long-term project. The Reds are believed to view Wharton as a perfect fit for their midfield, where he could potentially form a strong partnership with Ryan Gravenberch.
Manchester United are also looking to bolster their midfield options this summer and see Wharton as a player capable of making a major impact as they continue their squad rebuild.
