The arrival of Andoni Iraola as Liverpool manager has sparked fresh optimism around Anfield, with supporters hopeful the club can return to competing for the Premier League crown.
Liverpool’s fifth-place finish under Arne Slot last season was viewed as a major disappointment, leading to the Dutch coach’s departure and Iraola’s appointment. The Spaniard is renowned for his aggressive, high-intensity attacking style, a philosophy likely to excite fans, especially after Mohamed Salah previously called for a more attack-minded approach.
However, Iraola faces the challenge of moving forward without Salah, who made his final appearance for the club on the last day of the season against Brentford. As a result, Liverpool’s hierarchy are expected to support their new manager heavily in the transfer market after already investing around £450 million on new recruits last summer.
Liverpool eyeing £60m-rated midfield prospect
Although the transfer window officially opens on Monday, Liverpool have already been linked with several elite attacking talents.
One of the most frequently mentioned names is RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. The highly rated Ivorian is also attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain, while Leipzig are believed to value the 19-year-old at no less than £86 million.
At the same time, Liverpool are also looking to strengthen their midfield options, with Lille youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi emerging as a key target.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have held direct discussions regarding a move for the Moroccan international, who featured 42 times in all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign. Arsenal are also monitoring the 18-year-old, and both clubs are reported to have met with his representatives.
While Bouaddi’s personal preference remains unclear, Lille are said to have placed a £60 million valuation on the teenager in an attempt to ward off potential suitors.
Why Bouaddi could be an even bigger asset than Diomande
Liverpool’s admiration for Diomande is well documented, with the Leipzig winger reportedly among the club’s leading attacking targets.
The teenager enjoyed an impressive Bundesliga campaign, contributing 20 goals and assists combined, highlighting why he is viewed as a potential long-term successor to Salah on the right flank.
Despite the excitement surrounding Diomande, Bouaddi could prove just as important to Liverpool’s future.
The Moroccan midfielder has continued to attract attention with his performances, including standout displays on the international stage. His creativity and composure in possession could provide the perfect platform for a player like Diomande to flourish in Liverpool’s attack.
Talent scout Ben Mattinson has previously described Bouaddi as “exceptional,” and the youngster’s display against Brazil offered further evidence of his immense potential. During the match, he completed 91% of his passes and successfully completed three dribbles, demonstrating both technical quality and confidence on the ball.
Defensively, Bouaddi also impressed, winning four tackles and making six ball recoveries. Those attributes suggest he could add the ball-winning presence Liverpool have been seeking in midfield while also helping launch attacks from deeper areas.
A partnership between Bouaddi and Diomande could be particularly exciting. The midfielder’s ability to regain possession and create opportunities would complement the winger’s attacking instincts, potentially forming a combination capable of driving Liverpool forward for years to come.
While spending more than £140 million on both players would represent a significant financial commitment, it would also signal Liverpool’s determination to build a new generation capable of restoring the club to the top of English football.
With both players still in the early stages of their careers, Liverpool could be investing in two of Europe’s brightest young talents—footballers who may grow together under Iraola and help bring future title success back to Anfield.
