Liverpool Eye Frenkie de Jong as Barcelona Set €70m Price Tag

Liverpool are reportedly exploring a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong ahead of the January transfer window.

According to reports cited by Sky Sports, Barcelona have set an asking price of around €70 million for the Netherlands international, who has emerged as a major target for Liverpool.

Reports claim Liverpool have already made an initial €40 million offer for the 29-year-old midfielder, but Barcelona rejected the proposal and are reportedly demanding between €65m and €70m before considering his departure.

Liverpool are believed to be looking at midfield reinforcements, with De Jong’s ability to operate as both a deep-lying playmaker and holding midfielder making him an attractive option. His passing, ball progression and ability to carry the ball could add another dimension to Liverpool’s midfield.

However, there are questions surrounding the potential deal. De Jong has reportedly been dealing with injury problems and has yet to feature for Barcelona this season, while his age and the size of Barcelona’s asking price could make negotiations difficult.

For now, no transfer agreement has been reached. Liverpool would need to significantly increase their reported opening offer if Barcelona maintain their €70m valuation.

The situation could become one to watch closely as the January window approaches.
