Liverpool have brought a familiar face back to Anfield, with Hungarian midfielder Patrik Farkas returning to the club four years after leaving the academy.
The 19-year-old has now been registered with Liverpool’s U21 squad after impressing during a summer trial with the academy.
Farkas was named on the bench for Liverpool U21’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Monday, marking his first competitive involvement since completing his return to Merseyside earlier this month.
Farkas Returns to Liverpool
Farkas initially joined Liverpool in 2021 after moving from Hungarian side Kecskeméti TE. However, his first spell with the academy lasted only one season before he moved on to Blackburn Rovers.
He continued his development away from Liverpool, featuring on loan for City of Liverpool FC and Prescot Cables during his time away from the club.
With his Blackburn contract expiring at the end of last season, Farkas was given another opportunity to impress Liverpool during a trial this summer.
His performances were enough to convince the academy staff to offer him a return to the club.
Reunited With His Younger Brother
Farkas’ return also means he will once again share the same football environment as his younger brother, Erik.
Erik is already part of Liverpool’s U18 setup, allowing the two brothers to continue developing together on Merseyside.
Having played alongside each other since childhood, they will now have another opportunity to push each other and continue progressing in their careers.
U21 Opportunity
Farkas is expected to feature for Liverpool’s U21 side under manager Rob Page during the 2026/27 season.
A first-team breakthrough is likely to remain a longer-term objective, but the midfielder now has another chance to develop within Liverpool’s academy structure.
His versatility, energy and work rate could make him a useful option for the U21s as the campaign continues.
For Farkas, returning to Liverpool represents a significant moment in his young career. He has described the opportunity as a “dream come true” and is determined to work hard and prove himself.
Back at the club where his journey began, Farkas will now look to make the most of his second chance while continuing his football journey alongside his younger brother.
