Dominik Szoboszlai Close to Signing Fresh Long-Term Liverpool Extension

Dominik Szoboszlai is set to commit his long-term future to Liverpool by signing a new contract at Anfield, despite having two years remaining on his current deal.

The extension will end any uncertainty surrounding the Hungarian midfielder’s future and further establish him as a key figure in Andoni Iraola’s rebuilding project. The agreement follows extensive discussions between Liverpool and Szoboszlai’s agent, Matyas Esterhazy, rewarding the progress he has made since arriving from RB Leipzig in a £60 million transfer in 2023.

Since joining the Reds, the 25-year-old has made 147 appearances, scoring 28 goals and providing 26 assists. Last season alone, he contributed 13 goals and 12 assists in 53 matches, including four goals scored directly from free-kicks, underlining his quality from set-piece situations.

Following Andy Robertson’s departure this summer, Szoboszlai has also emerged as a leading contender to become Liverpool’s new vice-captain. As the current captain of Hungary, he is viewed by many as a potential long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk as the club’s captain.

Although he had previously been linked with a possible move to Real Madrid, his decision to sign a long-term extension is expected to silence speculation over his future and reaffirm his commitment to Liverpool.

Szoboszlai’s new deal follows Ryan Gravenberch’s recent contract extension, which keeps the Dutch midfielder at Anfield until 2032.

However, Liverpool are yet to reach a similar agreement with Alexis Mac Allister, who is among 15 players whose contracts are due to expire within the next two years. Virgil van Dijk, Alisson, Curtis Jones, Joe Gomez, Harvey Elliott, Kostas Tsimikas, Wataru Endo, Freddie Woodman, Stefan Bajcetic, Calvin Ramsay and Harvey Davies could all become free agents in 2027 if new deals are not agreed.

Meanwhile, highly-rated youngster Rio Ngumoha is expected to sign a much longer contract after turning 18 in August. He is currently under contract until 2028, alongside Mac Allister, Federico Chiesa and Vitezslav Jaros.
