Cody Gakpo’s injury and the Liverpool matches he could miss.

The report says Gakpo suffered an ankle injury while playing for the Netherlands against Serbia on September 27 and is expected to be out for several weeks

Gakpo was forced off early after a challenge from Serbia’s Saša Lukić. He initially continued for a few minutes but eventually signalled to the Netherlands bench that he could not carry on.

A subsequent assessment reportedly indicated that the Liverpool forward could spend several weeks recovering. The timing is particularly significant because Liverpool have a busy schedule coming up after the international break.

If the expected recovery period is around three weeks, the report says Gakpo could miss:

* 11 October: Liverpool vs Manchester City
* 14 October: LASK vs Liverpool
* 17 October: Brentford vs Liverpool

He could also be a doubt for Liverpool’s 20 October Champions League match against Villarreal, depending on how quickly he recovers.

Gakpo had reportedly made a strong start to the 2026/27 campaign, contributing six goals or assists in his first six appearances across the Premier League and Carabao Cup, while developing a productive partnership with Alexander Isak.

The injury could therefore give other Liverpool attackers an opportunity for increased minutes, with Victor Muñoz and Rio Ngumoha among the players mentioned as possible options.

Important: the exact length of Gakpo’s absence remains dependent on his recovery and further medical assessment, so the list of matches he will miss should be treated as an estimate rather than a confirmed absence.
