Tottenham Handed Maddison Injury Blow as De Zerbi Receives Double Boost Ahead of Crystal Palace Clash
Tottenham Hotspur have collected seven valuable points from their last three Premier League matches, but Roberto De Zerbi is still dealing with several injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Crystal Palace.
James Maddison is among the latest concerns for Spurs after suffering a groin problem during their impressive 2-0 victory over Chelsea last weekend. The midfielder started the match despite doubts over his fitness but was eventually forced off in the second half.
According to The Standard, Maddison is expected to undergo further medical tests ahead of the Palace encounter. His recovery timeline remains uncertain, raising concerns that he could face another spell on the sidelines. However, the fact that he was seen walking without assistance after the Chelsea victory offers some encouragement.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are continuing to monitor the progress of Destiny Udogie, who is reportedly edging closer to a return. The left-back is targeting a comeback in November as the club’s medical staff work to ensure he is ready to resume action.
Speaking before the Chelsea match, De Zerbi admitted that Udogie was still unavailable and that the club was working closely with its medical team to determine the best approach to his recovery.
Adarabioyo and Bergvall Could Return Against Palace
Despite the concerns surrounding Maddison, Tottenham have received encouraging news regarding two other players.
Centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo could return to the squad for Saturday’s clash after recovering from a calf problem. The defender impressed during his first start for Spurs against Coventry and could provide De Zerbi with another defensive option if he is declared fit.
According to The Standard, Adarabioyo has a chance of featuring against Palace, which would represent a timely boost for Tottenham.
Lucas Bergvall is another player who could be available this weekend. The midfielder has been absent since Tottenham’s draw with Manchester United after experiencing knee pain during the match.
De Zerbi previously indicated that Bergvall would require approximately two weeks to recover, making the Palace fixture a possible opportunity for his return.
Mudryk Closing In on Tottenham Comeback
Tottenham supporters are also waiting for Mykhailo Mudryk to return to action after the winger’s campaign was disrupted by an ankle injury.
The Ukrainian has made just one appearance this season, but reports suggest he could be back in early November. If his recovery progresses as expected, he could be in contention for Tottenham’s away fixture against Leeds United on November 7.
Odobert and Simons Face Longer Layoffs
Unfortunately for De Zerbi, Tottenham will have to wait considerably longer for Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons to return.
Odobert has been recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in February, with December being considered a possible return target.
Simons, who suffered a similar injury in April, faces an even longer recovery and is expected to remain unavailable until early 2027.
With Tottenham aiming to maintain their recent momentum in the Premier League, De Zerbi will be hoping to welcome back some of his sidelined players as quickly as possible, although Maddison’s latest injury concern could complicate his preparations for the Crystal Palace encounter.
