Tottenham Hotspur have strengthened their midfield in recent days with the high-profile arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, and their focus is now expected to shift towards reinforcing the attack.
With Xavi Simons struggling to make an impact on the left wing and limited depth in that area, manager Roberto De Zerbi is likely to prioritise signing a new wide forward before the Premier League season begins.
According to CaughtOffside, Spurs are among the clubs interested in AC Milan winger Rafael Leao. The Portuguese international is reportedly valued at around £51 million and is said to have already indicated his willingness to join the North London side.
Italian journalist Daniele Longo claims Leao is prepared to wait for Tottenham if the club submits a formal offer and reaches an agreement with AC Milan.
He said: “Leao wants to play in the Premier League and is willing to wait for Tottenham. Spurs are an attractive destination for him. If the speculation develops into a concrete €60 million offer, he is ready to accept a move to North London, even without Champions League football.”
Leao is believed to be seeking a fresh challenge after several successful seasons with AC Milan. Following Portugal’s exit from the World Cup, his club future could be settled sooner rather than later.
The 27-year-old would add pace, creativity and goal threat to Tottenham’s attack. Renowned for his dribbling, ability to beat defenders, chance creation and finishing, Leao would offer De Zerbi another dynamic option in the final third. His pressing intensity and willingness to contribute defensively also suit the Italian coach’s tactical approach.
With the player reportedly keen on a move to England, agreeing personal terms is not expected to be a major obstacle. Given Tottenham’s aggressive approach in the transfer market this summer, a deal could progress quickly if they decide to meet Milan’s asking price.
