‘Hopefully’ – Alexis Mac Allister breaks silence on his future after ‘very sad’ contract bombshell.
Alexis Mac Allister has revealed that no ‘firm decision’ has been made yet regarding his long-term future with Liverpool.
Alexis Mac Allister sparked plenty of attention two weeks ago when he admitted he was ‘very sad’ that Liverpool had not offered him a new contract during the summer. His comments came after fellow 2023 signings Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai had both agreed fresh deals with the club in recent months.
The 27-year-old still has just under two years remaining on his current £180,000-a-week contract at Anfield and has featured in five of Andoni Iraola’s first seven games as Liverpool manager.
Mac Allister: ‘No firm decision yet’ over Liverpool future
Mac Allister is currently with Argentina for three friendly matches during the international break and has spoken about his Liverpool situation to the media back home. The midfielder made it clear that he would like to remain at Anfield beyond the summer after next.
Speaking to ESPN, Mac Allister said there is currently no final decision regarding his future. He stressed that he still has two years left on his contract and intends to give everything for Liverpool during that period.
He also expressed hope that he could stay at the club for even longer, while acknowledging that plenty could change before his current deal expires. The Argentine added that, regardless of what happens, he considers Liverpool one of the best clubs in the world and wants to enjoy his time there with his family.

Mac Allister’s form could earn him a new Liverpool contract
Alexis Mac Allister took a bold step by publicly expressing his disappointment at not receiving a new contract during the summer, but his performances on the pitch have certainly backed up his comments.
Since those contract revelations emerged two weeks ago, the Argentine has scored in home victories against Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, before producing another outstanding performance in Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth on Sunday.
While Ryan Gravenberch has recently dropped out of the starting XI, Mac Allister appears to have taken his game to another level compared with last season. He has returned with greater energy and purpose, much like teammate Cody Gakpo.
If the midfielder continues performing at this level, it could become increasingly difficult for Liverpool to overlook the possibility of extending his contract. He would be 29 when his current deal expires, meaning the club could potentially get several more productive years from him if they act proactively.
Mac Allister also appears keen to remain at Anfield beyond 2028. The midfielder’s desire to stay could ultimately depend on whether Liverpool’s hierarchy shares the same ambition in the months ahead.
