Tottenham Reportedly Begin Payment Plan for £100M Star Ahead of Key Months

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly exploring another major transfer move as the club searches for answers following a disappointing start to the new Premier League season.

The Lilywhites endured a difficult 2024/25 campaign under Ange Postecoglou, eventually finishing 17th in the Premier League. Despite their low position, Spurs were not seriously threatened by relegation during that particular season.

Things became even more concerning the following campaign, with Tottenham spending much of the season battling to avoid relegation. Their Premier League survival was eventually confirmed on the final day after Spurs secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Everton.

The result ensured Tottenham would remain in England’s top flight, but they once again ended the campaign in 17th place, finishing with just 41 points.

With Tottenham determined to prevent another disappointing campaign, the club made major changes during the summer transfer window. Spurs spent heavily on strengthening the squad, investing significant funds in new arrivals in a bid to give manager Roberto De Zerbi the quality, depth and options required to compete at a much higher level.

However, the opening weeks of the new season have failed to deliver the improvement the club had hoped for.

Tottenham have struggled for consistency in the Premier League and remain without a win after their first five matches. The Lilywhites currently find themselves at the foot of the table with only two points, placing increased pressure on De Zerbi and his squad.

Their difficult start was compounded last week when Spurs were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool, ending their Carabao Cup run at an early stage and adding to the growing concerns surrounding the team.

With Tottenham struggling in the Premier League and their domestic cup campaign already over, reports suggest the club are beginning to focus their attention on the January transfer window.

Spurs are reportedly assessing attacking and creative targets who could add more quality to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad and provide an extra boost during the second half of the season.

Tottenham Step Up Interest in Morgan Gibbs-White

Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is reportedly one of the names on Tottenham’s radar.

According to Football Insider, Spurs have identified the England international as a potential target for January and could make a formal move for the midfielder once the winter transfer window opens.

Tottenham’s interest in Gibbs-White is also not a new development. The North London club have previously looked into signing the midfielder and were reportedly keen on bringing him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year.

Nottingham Forest, however, were unwilling to lose one of their key players and ultimately turned down the chance to sell him.

Tottenham’s interest in the 26-year-old reportedly remains strong, with the club continuing to keep a close eye on his performances. His progress has seemingly reinforced the belief that he could become a valuable addition to Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield.

Transfermarkt currently puts Gibbs-White’s value at around £60 million, while the midfielder has entered the final two years of his current contract with Nottingham Forest.

His contract situation could make his future one to watch closely, although Forest may have little desire to part with such an influential player midway through the season. A potential January departure could therefore depend largely on how much Tottenham are prepared to offer.

Why Gibbs-White Could Suit De Zerbi’s System

Gibbs-White is primarily recognised for his creativity and ability to operate between the lines, where he can unlock defences and create chances for teammates.

His technical quality, movement and attacking intelligence allow him to influence games in advanced positions, while he can also contribute defensively and take on more box-to-box responsibilities when needed.

One of Gibbs-White’s biggest strengths is his versatility.

The midfielder is capable of playing in several roles across the midfield and attacking areas, and he has also shown that he can operate effectively from wider positions when required. That adaptability could prove valuable for Roberto De Zerbi, particularly as Tottenham look to add more creativity and attacking depth to their squad.

Another factor working in his favour is his wealth of Premier League experience. Having already played regularly at the highest level of English football, Gibbs-White would be familiar with the intensity and demands of the competition.

His displays have also earned him recognition on the international stage. England manager Thomas Tuchel has included the midfielder in his squad for the upcoming fixtures, underlining the reputation he has built in recent seasons.

At 26, Gibbs-White is entering an important period of his career. He combines Premier League experience and technical quality with the potential to develop further into a key attacking midfielder.

For Tottenham, however, bringing him to North London would require a considerable financial commitment.

A reported £60 million valuation could make a January transfer difficult, especially considering Nottingham Forest’s previous reluctance to sell him. Nevertheless, Spurs could view the addition of an established Premier League creative midfielder as a way to address some of the weaknesses that have contributed to their disappointing start.

With Roberto De Zerbi under growing pressure to improve Tottenham’s fortunes, the January transfer window could take on even greater significance.

Should Spurs continue to struggle in front of goal and fail to find consistency in terms of creativity and results over the coming months, Morgan Gibbs-White could become one of the key names on their recruitment shortlist.

For now, there is no certainty that Tottenham will complete a deal for the midfielder. However, their reported interest indicates that the club are already exploring significant reinforcements as they attempt to turn their season around and move in a different direction.
