Liverpool confident of new Rio Ngumoha deal

Liverpool are reportedly confident that they can agree a new contract with 18-year-old Rio Ngumoha, with optimism said to exist on both sides.

Ngumoha became eligible for a long-term professional deal after turning 18 in August. His current Liverpool contract reportedly runs until 2028, but the club is considering an improved deal that would reflect his growing importance to the first team.

There has reportedly been interest from Arsenal, but journalist Pete O’Rourke says Liverpool remain confident about keeping the teenager. According to O’Rourke, Ngumoha is happy at Anfield and expects to receive regular opportunities under manager Andoni Iraola.

Ngumoha has already made an impression this season, starting three of Liverpool’s first seven matches and appearing as a substitute in two others. Despite competition from new arrivals such as Bradley Barcola and Victor Muñoz, as well as the strong form of Cody Gakpo, Liverpool’s busy schedule could give the youngster further opportunities.

The report also says Liverpool officials view Ngumoha as a potential future elite player and are determined to prevent him from being lured away.

For now, there is no indication that a new contract has been officially signed. The key development is that Liverpool are reportedly optimistic that an agreement can be reached, while Ngumoha is believed to be comfortable with his situation at the club.

Bottom line: Liverpool want to tie down Rio Ngumoha for the long term, and reports suggest both the club and player are positive about reaching an agreement.
