Tottenham Hotspur have carried out a major squad overhaul ahead of Roberto De Zerbi’s first full campaign in charge after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.
The club has reshaped its defence, bringing in Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, while Luka Vuskovic and Radu Dragusin have moved on. Spurs are also understood to be open to offers for Cristian Romero, but another key defender has reportedly been declared off-limits.
Recent rumours linked Micky van de Ven with potential moves to Barcelona and Liverpool, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has firmly dismissed those reports. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano described the speculation as “fake news” and stressed that Tottenham have no intention of selling the Dutch centre-back.
According to Romano, Van de Ven is regarded as a vital part of De Zerbi’s plans and is considered untouchable. He added that while Romero is expected to leave, Spurs have already prepared for his departure by strengthening their defence with the arrivals of Van Hecke and Senesi.
Meanwhile, reports in recent days have suggested Tottenham could accept around €50 million (£42.6m) for Romero this summer. However, the Argentine defender has enhanced his reputation with a series of impressive performances at the World Cup and is now just one victory away from winning the tournament for a second consecutive time.
Should Romero help Argentina lift the trophy again, his market value could rise further, especially with several of Europe’s top clubs reportedly monitoring his displays closely.
