Tottenham Hotspur remain optimistic about completing the signing of Manchester City winger Savinho, with growing belief that the Brazilian could become an even bigger success than new midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
Concerns briefly emerged this week after Fernandes was absent from Spurs’ latest pre-season outing, sparking speculation over a possible serious injury. However, those fears were quickly dismissed, with reports confirming Roberto De Zerbi simply chose to rest the 22-year-old as part of his careful workload management.
Fernandes has already impressed during pre-season, scoring a stunning volley against MK Dons before delivering another composed display in the win over Auckland FC. The Portuguese midfielder has showcased his technical quality, composure in possession, and ability to dictate play, strengthening hopes that he will play a key role next season.
Despite the excitement surrounding Fernandes, Tottenham are still prioritising attacking reinforcements. According to reports, the club remain confident of reaching an agreement with Manchester City for Savinho before their August 1 deadline, with the Brazilian winger still eager to make the move after personal terms were reportedly agreed months ago.
Although Savinho endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign, his previous performances for Girona highlighted his immense potential. The winger produced 19 goal contributions in La Liga and finished ahead of stars such as Vinícius Júnior and Lamine Yamal for successful dribbles, underlining his elite attacking ability.
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has even compared Savinho’s style to Yamal, praising his dribbling, decision-making, and creativity. If Tottenham complete the transfer, there is increasing belief that the £60 million-rated winger could become one of the standout signings of the summer and make an even greater impact than Fernandes.
