Tottenham are now set to shift their attention to strengthening the attack after prioritising reinforcements in defence and midfield during the summer transfer window.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has already welcomed five new arrivals since taking charge after guiding Spurs to Premier League survival on the final day of the 2025/26 season. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, defenders Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke, along with midfielder Mateus Fernandes, have all joined the club. Sandro Tonali is also on the verge of completing his move, which would make him Tottenham’s sixth signing of the summer.
Once Tonali’s deal is finalised, Spurs’ spending will exceed £235 million, with further investment expected to be directed towards bolstering the forward line.
Several attacking players have been linked with Tottenham, including Manchester City’s Savinho and Omar Marmoush, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, and AC Milan star Rafael Leao.
Leao is believed to be seeking a fresh challenge after spending seven seasons with AC Milan. Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, the Portuguese international admitted he feels the time is right for a new adventure.
“I’ve given everything to AC Milan,” he said. “The club helped me develop and stood by me through difficult moments. I’ve made my mark there, but I have ambitions and want to experience a new challenge in a different league.”
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Milan value Leao at between €60 million and €70 million (£51.3m–£59.9m) this summer.
According to Teamtalk, Tottenham have already opened discussions with Leao’s agent, Jorge Mendes, and the winger is said to be receptive to a move to north London.
However, Spurs are expected to face stiff competition, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona also given the opportunity to sign the 27-year-old.
Leao has earned glowing praise throughout his career. Former Portugal teammate Nani labelled him “world-class,” while Zlatan Ibrahimović described him as “one of the strongest players in the world.”
Despite Milan enduring a disappointing campaign, Leao still managed 10 goals and three assists in 31 appearances last season. He has also made a bright start at the 2026 World Cup, contributing one goal and one assist for Portugal.
