Tottenham Hotspur have added Cody Gakpo to their list of attacking targets this summer, according to talkSPORT. However, Liverpool are in no rush to sell the Dutch forward, whose contract at Anfield runs until June 2028.
With several high-profile winger transfers driving prices up this summer, Liverpool are expected to demand a significant fee for Gakpo. The club is believed to be using Anthony Gordon’s reported £70 million move from Newcastle United to Barcelona as a benchmark, making it clear they will not entertain cut-price offers.
Speaking on The Window, Ben Jacobs revealed that Gakpo is firmly on Tottenham’s radar, although discussions are still at an early stage.
“Liverpool have no real desire to sell,” Jacobs explained. “If any club wants to sign Gakpo, they’ll point to deals like Anthony Gordon’s transfer as evidence of the current market value. Their asking price is very high.”
He also dismissed claims from the Netherlands suggesting Gakpo has asked to leave, saying the forward has not informed Liverpool that he wants to move. Nevertheless, Tottenham remain a club to monitor as the transfer window unfolds.
Gakpo enjoyed another productive campaign, registering nine goals and six assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. Despite his contributions, Liverpool endured a disappointing season, finishing fifth in the Premier League, although they still secured UEFA Champions League qualification.
The Netherlands international will also begin the new campaign under a new manager following the arrival of Andoni Iraola, who has replaced Arne Slot at Anfield.
Gakpo is not the only winger Tottenham are pursuing. Jacobs also reports that Manchester City’s Savinho remains a target, with negotiations between the two clubs continuing intermittently after previous interest failed to produce a deal.
Spurs have already strengthened significantly this summer. Martin Dubravka, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi arrived on free transfers, while Jan Paul van Hecke joined from Brighton for £52 million and Mateus Fernandes became the club’s record signing in an £85 million deal.
Tottenham are now set to break that record again after agreeing a stunning £100 million move for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, underlining their determination to rebuild after consecutive 17th-place Premier League finishes.
Gakpo also showcased his versatility last season, frequently filling in as both a central striker and a left winger amid injuries to Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.
