Reports suggesting Liverpool have tabled a second €116million (£100m/$132m) bid for highly-rated RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande have been firmly denied by a reliable source, although the Premier League giants remain fully committed to trying to bring the teenager to Anfield.
Liverpool have tracked Diomande for months and view the 19-year-old as a potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. The Reds have maintained regular contact with the player’s representatives since late last year and continue to prioritise the Ivorian international despite already strengthening their attacking options this summer.
An opening €100million bid was swiftly rejected by RB Leipzig, who are determined to keep hold of one of Europe’s most exciting young talents for at least another season. Recent reports from Germany claimed Liverpool had responded with an improved €116million offer, but Sky Sports journalist Phillip Hinze has dismissed those claims, insisting that no second bid has been submitted and that the rumours originated from unverified sources.
Despite the setback, Liverpool are expected to return with another proposal as they push to secure Diomande’s signature. However, Leipzig are in a strong negotiating position and could demand a Bundesliga-record fee of around €148million (£127.5m) before considering a sale. While Diomande is believed to be open to a move to Anfield, he has remained professional throughout the transfer saga and has shown no signs of forcing an exit from the German club.
Should Liverpool fail to land their top target, Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has emerged as a possible alternative. The Reds’ search for a new wide forward could become even more urgent if Cody Gakpo departs, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly monitoring the Dutch international’s situation.
