Liverpool have made an energetic start to the summer transfer window and are now expected to strengthen their midfield with another signing.
The Reds recently submitted an opening bid worth around £87 million for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who has emerged as their top target following Mohamed Salah’s departure. The club has also completed the signing of Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna, underlining its intent to rebuild the squad ahead of the new season.
According to Lewis Bower, who closely follows Liverpool’s academy, Manchester City are trying to convince highly rated youngster Xavier Parker to stay. However, the 16-year-old is expected to join Liverpool once his contract expires at the end of the month.
Reports from The Secret Scout claim Liverpool have already opened discussions with Parker’s representatives, with the midfielder keen on making the move to Anfield. A lifelong Liverpool supporter, Parker is regarded as one of England’s brightest young talents and is capable of playing both in central midfield and as a centre-forward. He featured regularly for Manchester City’s Under-18 side last season.
While Parker is unlikely to feature in the first team immediately, Liverpool view him as a significant investment for the future. If the Reds also succeed in signing Diomande alongside Muñoz, they will have enjoyed an outstanding start to the transfer window.
Liverpool are also expected to focus on strengthening their midfield and defence following the departures of Ibrahima Konaté and Andy Robertson. As well as recruiting promising young talent, the Merseyside club is looking to add experienced players who can help Andoni Iraola build his squad and implement his tactical vision for the upcoming campaign.
