Liverpool and Manchester United have reportedly been handed a setback in their pursuit of Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu, with the Italian club unwilling to consider selling the 26-year-old during the January transfer window.
Kalulu has reportedly attracted growing Premier League interest, with Manchester United particularly keen on strengthening their defence. Liverpool are also monitoring the France international as they assess defensive options.
The defender’s versatility makes him an attractive target. Kalulu can play both centre-back and right-back, giving potential suitors valuable tactical flexibility. Reports indicate that Manchester United have even sent scouts to Italy to watch him, while Liverpool and Tottenham are also believed to be interested.
Juventus reportedly valued Kalulu at around €50 million during the summer, but their current position is that he is not available for a January move. He has become an important member of Luciano Spalletti’s defence, making a mid-season departure difficult unless an exceptional offer arrives.
For Liverpool, the setback may mean continuing to monitor the situation rather than making an immediate move. Manchester United, meanwhile, could have an even greater need for defensive reinforcements given their early-season struggles.
With Juventus unwilling to sell, both Premier League clubs may now have to wait until the summer or consider making a huge offer to change the Italian club’s stance.
