Roberto De Zerbi Introduces Phone Ban as Tottenham Fight to Rescue Their Season

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has introduced new measures to improve team spirit and help the club recover from their disappointing start to the Premier League campaign.

With Spurs struggling near the bottom of the table and still searching for their first league victory of the season, the Italian coach is exploring different ways to bring his players together and change the club’s fortunes.

De Zerbi Removes Phones During Team Meals

During Tottenham’s recent training camp in Marbella, Spain, De Zerbi prohibited players from using their mobile phones during breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The manager believes the restriction will encourage players to communicate more with one another instead of spending their time looking at their screens.

De Zerbi explained that the squad spent time training together and participated in important discussions about football, the team’s difficult situation and the responsibility each player must accept.

The camp also included separate dinners for players and members of the coaching staff, giving everyone opportunities to strengthen their relationships.

Manager Wants Greater Unity and Accountability

De Zerbi acknowledged that Tottenham must improve and that he is willing to explore every possible solution to help the team move forward.

The former Marseille manager revealed that he had organised similar training camps during his time in France and found them beneficial.

He also confirmed that the decision to arrange the Marbella trip was made in consultation with senior club officials, including chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, sporting director Johan Lange and the club’s ownership.

According to De Zerbi, the objective was straightforward: allow the players and staff to spend more quality time together and place the club’s needs at the centre of their attention.

He also pointed out that Tottenham’s preparations had been affected by the arrival of several new players and the return of others from international duty, making it important for the squad to develop a stronger understanding.

Despite introducing the phone restriction, De Zerbi insisted that the camp was not designed to impose excessive discipline. Players were still allowed personal freedom during their stay in Spain.

Tottenham Need Results Against Coventry

The training camp comes at a crucial moment for Tottenham, who are desperate to improve their position in the Premier League.

Despite investing heavily in new players during the summer transfer window, Spurs have struggled to translate their spending into positive results on the pitch.

Their upcoming encounter with Coventry City therefore represents an important opportunity to begin turning things around.

De Zerbi hopes that the additional time spent together in Marbella will help improve communication, strengthen relationships within the squad and encourage greater responsibility among the players.

However, the real test will come on the pitch, where Tottenham must start delivering the performances and results their supporters expect.
