LIVERPOOL FACE BAYERN MUNICH BATTLE AS £116M FLORIAN WIRTZ EYES BUNDESLIGA RETURN

LIVERPOOL FACE BAYERN MUNICH THREAT AS £116M FLORIAN WIRTZ CONSIDERS RETURN TO GERMANY

Liverpool could face fresh uncertainty over Florian Wirtz’s future, with Bayern Munich reportedly monitoring the situation of the German playmaker and believing he could be open to returning to the Bundesliga.

According to reports from TEAMtalk, Bayern are keeping a close watch on Wirtz’s situation at Anfield. People familiar with the German club’s thinking reportedly believe the 23-year-old could consider a move back to his homeland following a difficult spell in English football.

Wirtz joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 in a deal worth £116 million, becoming one of the club’s most expensive signings. Liverpool expected the Germany international to become a major creative force, but his performances have yet to reach the levels that made him one of Europe’s most highly rated young talents.

BAYERN MUNICH CONSIDERING A MOVE FOR WIRTZ

Bayern Munich have admired Wirtz for several years and previously attempted to secure his signature before Liverpool won the race for his services.

The German giants could now reconsider their interest as they assess his situation on Merseyside. His difficulties adapting to the Premier League have reportedly encouraged Bayern to explore whether a return to Germany could become possible.

A move back to the Bundesliga could offer Wirtz an opportunity to rediscover his best form. He enjoyed tremendous success at Bayer Leverkusen, where his technical ability and creativity established him as one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in European football.

Returning to familiar surroundings and playing in a different tactical system could potentially help him regain his confidence and produce the performances that made Liverpool invest so heavily in him.

However, Bayern would need to consider the financial demands of any potential transfer. Wirtz’s wages and the substantial fee Liverpool would likely request could make negotiations complicated.

LIVERPOOL HAVE NO IMMEDIATE PLANS TO SELL WIRTZ

Despite the growing speculation surrounding Bayern Munich’s interest, Liverpool are reportedly not considering selling the midfielder at this stage.

The Reds remain determined to make their significant investment worthwhile and believe Wirtz still has the potential to become a key player in their long-term project.

Liverpool understand that adapting to English football can take time, particularly for a young player arriving with enormous expectations. The club are therefore prepared to give the German international further opportunities to demonstrate his quality.

Having spent such a substantial amount to bring him to Anfield, Liverpool would be reluctant to give up on him before he has had a proper chance to establish himself.

For now, there are reportedly no active discussions about a potential departure, meaning Bayern would face a difficult task if they decided to make a formal approach.

WIRTZ’S FUTURE REMAINS UNCERTAIN

Bayern Munich’s interest is understandable given Wirtz’s previous achievements in Germany and the club’s long-standing admiration for his abilities.

Nevertheless, whether the reported interest develops into a concrete transfer bid remains unclear. Much will depend on Wirtz’s performances over the coming months, his ability to adapt to Liverpool’s playing style and whether Bayern are prepared to meet the financial demands of a deal.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will hope their record investment eventually delivers the expected results rather than becoming a transfer disappointment.

For the time being, Wirtz remains part of Liverpool’s plans, but Bayern Munich’s reported interest could make his situation one to watch as the transfer story develops.
