Liverpool youngster Amara Nallo has returned to Anfield from his loan spell with Finnish club HJK Helsinki after suffering an injury.
The 19-year-old centre-back joined HJK in July on a season-long temporary deal, with the move designed to give him regular senior football and continue his development away from Liverpool. He had made three appearances for the Finnish side, starting all three matches.
However, Nallo’s spell in Finland has now come to an unfortunate end. According to HJK, the defender suffered a lower-body injury that kept him out throughout September, and he will not recover in time to play again before the end of the Finnish league season. He has therefore already returned to Liverpool to begin his rehabilitation.
Liverpool confirmed that Nallo will continue his recovery at the AXA Training Centre, where the club’s medical staff will oversee his rehabilitation. The Reds have not specified exactly how long he is expected to be unavailable.
Nallo joined Liverpool’s academy from West Ham United in 2023 and has since developed into one of the club’s promising young defenders. He has already made three senior appearances for Liverpool.
His senior breakthrough has been unusual, however. Nallo made his Champions League debut against PSV Eindhoven in January 2025 and was sent off shortly after coming on. Liverpool later gave him further opportunities, and the youngster has continued working to establish himself at senior level.
The original purpose of the HJK loan was to provide Nallo with consistent first-team football and help him gain experience in a competitive senior environment. His injury means that development plan has been interrupted, and Liverpool will now focus on getting him fully fit before deciding on his next step.
For now, the priority is Nallo’s rehabilitation and recovery, with the highly rated defender back at Liverpool rather than continuing his campaign in Finland.
