Virgil van Dijk linked with AC Milan again as fresh transfer claim emerges
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has once again been linked with a potential move to AC Milan, with renewed claims suggesting the Italian giants could eventually make a move for the experienced defender.
Van Dijk’s long-term future has attracted increasing speculation as he enters the latter stages of his current Liverpool contract. However, the Netherlands international remains a key part of the Reds’ plans and continues to play an important role at the heart of their defence.
Italian journalist doubles down on Van Dijk-to-Milan claim
Italian journalist Carlo Pellegatti has once again insisted that Van Dijk could eventually make the switch to San Siro.
Speaking via Football Italia, Pellegatti maintained that his previous comments about Milan’s interest were based on information rather than something he had simply invented.
He claimed that Milan owner Gerry Cardinale had previously indicated the club could either attempt to sign Van Dijk immediately by paying a fee or wait until the defender became available on a free transfer.
Pellegatti therefore remains convinced that Van Dijk will eventually arrive at Milan, although there has been no confirmation from either Liverpool or the Italian club that a transfer is currently being negotiated.
Van Dijk remains central to Liverpool’s defence
Despite the latest speculation surrounding his future, Van Dijk continues to be an important figure for Liverpool.
The 35-year-old has also developed a promising partnership with summer arrival Jérémy Jacquet, with the duo combining Van Dijk’s experience and leadership with Jacquet’s pace and defensive ability.
That combination has provided Liverpool with greater balance at the back, while Van Dijk’s organisation and composure continue to be valuable assets for the team.
Liverpool’s defensive displays have shown signs of improvement, further highlighting the captain’s importance to the side.
Van Dijk has already secured his Liverpool legacy
Whatever eventually happens with his future, Van Dijk has already established himself as one of the most important defenders of Liverpool’s modern era.
Since arriving at Anfield, the Dutch centre-back has played a major role in the club’s Premier League and Champions League successes and has become a defining figure of Liverpool’s recent history.
A move to AC Milan would represent a significant new chapter in his career, but for now, the latest claims remain speculation rather than confirmation that Van Dijk is on his way to Italy.
