Midfielder spotted at Liverpool as he closes in on a move to the club, with talks now at an advanced stage.

Liverpool’s Midfield Uncertainty Grows as Reds Close In on Another Signing

Liverpool’s midfield situation is becoming increasingly uncertain. The issue is not a shortage of talent, but the possibility of losing Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones, which could leave the Reds needing to replace two key players in an area that already appears short on depth.

Curtis Jones is perhaps the biggest concern. Inter Milan have shown strong interest in the midfielder and have already made approaches for his signature this summer. Liverpool have rejected those offers so far, while manager Andoni Iraola has made it clear that he wants Jones to remain at Anfield.

However, the fact that his future is still being discussed this late in the transfer window suggests there is genuine uncertainty surrounding the situation.

Mac Allister’s future is also attracting plenty of attention. Real Madrid have admired the Argentina international for some time, while Atletico Madrid have previously been linked with him. Manchester City have now reportedly joined the list of clubs monitoring his situation, creating another potential threat to Liverpool’s midfield.

Losing either player would be a major setback. Losing both could create a significant problem for Iraola.

Liverpool’s midfield already appears to need strengthening even without potential departures. Ryan Gravenberch remains an important figure, while Dominik Szoboszlai offers valuable versatility, but one particular position continues to stand out as an obvious weakness.

The Reds need a genuine No.6.

Since Fabinho left the club three years ago, Liverpool have struggled to find a direct replacement. Several players have been asked to operate in the role, but the team still lacks a specialist defensive midfielder capable of protecting the back four, controlling the tempo and providing balance behind an aggressive, high-intensity side.

That role could become even more important under Iraola.

Trey Nyoni has certainly made an impression during pre-season. The teenager has stepped up confidently and increasingly looks capable of making an impact with the first team. There is growing optimism that he could have an important role to play this season.

However, Liverpool cannot assume their midfield problems are solved simply because Nyoni has emerged.

He is still only a teenager, and expecting him to immediately become the solution to Liverpool’s midfield issues would place an unnecessary amount of pressure on him, particularly if both Jones and Mac Allister were to leave. His development should be managed carefully rather than forcing him to carry the responsibility of rebuilding the midfield.

Liverpool therefore have an important decision to make.

If both Jones and Mac Allister remain, there is still a strong case for bringing in another midfielder, especially a natural No.6.

If one of them departs, adding another midfielder becomes even more important.

And if both leave, Liverpool could find themselves facing a major midfield overhaul. A complete rebuild this month may be unlikely, but it could become a realistic possibility over the next 12 to 18 months.

In the meantime, Liverpool are already working on another midfield addition.

Anfield Watch has exclusively reported that the Reds are in advanced talks to sign Patrik Farkas as a free agent. The Hungarian U18 international is the older brother of Erik Farkas and operates in midfield.

Farkas has reportedly been in discussions with Liverpool while also featuring in the club’s U21 fixtures. He was recently spotted in the background of one of the images released by Liverpool from their latest match at the AXA Training Centre.

That could be a strong indication that negotiations are progressing positively.

If the move is completed, Farkas would become the fifth Hungarian player contracted to Liverpool, joining his younger brother, Armin Pecsi, Milos Kerkez and Dominik Szoboszlai.

For now, Liverpool’s midfield remains one of the most intriguing areas of the squad, with several important decisions still to be made before the transfer window closes. Of
