Liverpool Target Argentine ‘Gem’ as Shock Alexander-Arnold Return Talks Emerge
Liverpool are reportedly preparing a January bid for Boca Juniors’ teenage attacking midfielder Tomas Aranda, while talks have also taken place regarding a potential sensational return to Anfield for former star Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds enjoyed a major summer transfer window, bringing in Victor Munoz, Bradley Barcola, Ronald Araujo, Jeremy Jacquet, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Lucca Brughmans. Barcola was the standout arrival, joining from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £123 million.
With attention now shifting towards future transfer plans, Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on the South American market.
Liverpool plotting Aranda move
According to Argentine outlet El Intransigente, Liverpool are planning to make an offer for Boca Juniors youngster Tomas Aranda in January.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is naturally right-footed and can also play from the left side. Although he is currently sidelined with an injury, Liverpool are reportedly considering an early approach before other major European clubs enter the race.
Aranda has emerged as one of Boca’s latest highly rated prospects, with Liverpool said to be closely monitoring his development and current situation.
His reported €9 million (£8 million) price tag could make the teenager an attractive investment for the Reds if he fulfils his potential.
Alexander-Arnold return talks
Meanwhile, discussions have reportedly taken place between intermediaries and Liverpool and Arsenal over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s situation at Real Madrid.
Both Premier League clubs are understood to be interested in the England international if he eventually becomes available for a return to England.
However, Alexander-Arnold is currently focused on succeeding at Real Madrid and establishing himself at the Bernabeu.
The defender is also facing competition for his position, with Denzel Dumfries providing another option for manager Jose Mourinho.
Ward continues to back Iraola
Julian Ward has returned to Liverpool as sporting director following Richard Hughes’ move to Al-Hilal.
Ward previously rose through the club’s recruitment structure before becoming sporting director and has now taken up the role again.
Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Ward’s deep knowledge of Liverpool played an important role in his return.
Ward and the wider Liverpool hierarchy are reportedly confident in new head coach Andoni Iraola, suggesting the Spaniard can expect continued support in the transfer market when the January window opens.
