Tottenham Hotspur have made their position on Luka Vuskovic crystal clear amid ongoing discussions with Brighton over both the Croatian defender and Jan Paul van Hecke.
While Van Hecke remains one of Spurs’ top defensive targets this summer, negotiations with Brighton have proven difficult, with the Seagulls rejecting several approaches for the Dutch centre-back. Despite the setbacks, Tottenham are optimistic that a breakthrough can be reached as talks continue between the two clubs.
The discussions have become increasingly complex due to Brighton’s strong interest in Vuskovic. The South Coast club recently tested Tottenham’s resolve with a £30 million bid for the highly-rated 19-year-old after his outstanding loan spell at Hamburg, where he earned a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
Brighton are not alone in their admiration, with European heavyweights including Barcelona and Bayern Munich also credited with an interest in the Croatian youngster. However, Tottenham have no intention of letting him leave cheaply.
According to reports, Spurs would only consider selling Vuskovic for a fee exceeding £60 million, more than double Brighton’s initial offer. The valuation underlines the club’s belief that he is one of the most promising young talents in their ranks and a potential cornerstone of their defence for years to come.
Vuskovic’s combination of physicality, composure on the ball and defensive intelligence has attracted widespread praise, helping to explain why Brighton are so eager to secure his signature. The Seagulls have built a reputation for developing elite young players and view the defender as another talent capable of reaching the very top.
Although reports suggest Vuskovic is interested in joining Brighton in search of regular first-team football, any deal appears unlikely unless the Seagulls significantly increase their offer.
For now, as negotiations over Van Hecke continue, Tottenham’s stance remains firm: Vuskovic is a prized asset and will only be sold for a premium fee.
