Liverpool Handed Injury Blow as New Signing Suffers Setback

Liverpool’s defensive options have taken a hit ahead of the new season. Ibrahima Konaté has left for Real Madrid on a free transfer, while Joe Gomez is sidelined with injury. New signing Giovanni Leoni is also still recovering from an ACL injury, and youngster Ifeanyi Ndukwe is set to leave on loan due to work permit issues.

That leaves £60m signing Jeremy Jacquet in line for a key role alongside Virgil van Dijk. However, the 21-year-old is still recovering from shoulder surgery and could miss the friendly against Leeds United after suffering fresh discomfort.

Manager Andoni Iraola confirmed Liverpool will not rush Jacquet back, insisting the club must carefully manage his recovery despite their shortage of senior centre-backs.
