Liverpool’s search for a new right-sided attacker has reportedly hit another obstacle, with Maghnes Akliouche favoring a move to Paris Saint-Germain over a switch to Anfield.
Although the Reds are prepared to offer Monaco a higher transfer fee than PSG, the player’s preference could render Liverpool’s financial advantage meaningless.
The Merseyside club have identified the 24-year-old as a potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, impressed by his creativity, dribbling ability, and effectiveness on the right flank. Liverpool have already explored the conditions of a possible deal and are ready to compete strongly for his signature.
However, Akliouche is said to be determined to remain in France, leaving PSG in pole position despite the Ligue 1 champions still negotiating a fee with Monaco.
Akliouche prioritizes PSG move
According to journalist Santi Aouna, Akliouche has made it clear that PSG is his preferred destination. This is despite Liverpool being willing to offer Monaco a more lucrative transfer package and better personal terms for the player.
PSG have tracked the French international for months and are believed to have secured his approval earlier this summer. Talks between the Paris club and Monaco are ongoing, although previous bids have not met Monaco’s asking price.
While Liverpool’s willingness to spend more could force PSG to improve their offer, it does little to increase the Reds’ chances unless Akliouche changes his mind. Monaco may eventually have to decide between accepting a lower bid from PSG or holding on to a player who wants to leave.
Liverpool should move on
Reports from Sky Sports previously revealed that Liverpool had contacted Monaco to inquire about Akliouche’s availability, while PSG have already seen several offers—including one worth around €40 million—turned down.
From a tactical standpoint, Akliouche appears well suited to Andoni Iraola’s high-intensity system, thanks to his chance creation, ball-carrying ability, and relentless work rate off the ball.
Even so, Liverpool would be wise not to pursue a player whose heart is set elsewhere. With previous winger pursuits already proving unsuccessful, the club cannot afford to spend the remainder of the transfer window trying to persuade another reluctant target.
While Liverpool have the financial strength to satisfy Monaco’s valuation, money alone cannot secure a player’s full commitment. A more sensible strategy would be to focus on an attacker who sees Anfield as their first-choice destination rather than an alternative option.
